Run Bananas Incorporated was founded on 2009 by no less than the BananaMan himself, not me ok? I am referring to the first time run champ for 10K in the Run for Barobaybay -Mang Emong.

The group has had fun planning runs and adventures alike.

I have been a running junkie ever since I have discovered that it is a joy way back 2010. When I moved in Cebu, I have had my fair share of running until an accident on one of the big running events happened. It made me uberly paranoid and prompted me to just do my runs in safe roads (that apparantly only includes (1) IT park; and (2) Abellana Oval for me). This being the case,  my running became more LESS frequent (hahaha the “more less” thing confuses me too, but you get the point, I guess). As a result. I kept on gaining weight though not drastically but enough for me to act on it when friends commented about my apparent gain. I cant double my dance scheds enough to slash some of my “gains” off. I tried boxing but the gym is way too far that doing it daily is a struggle, not to mention, an additional expense on my Gas. I even resorted to the before-6 diet but I ended up sickly despite the vitamins I have been taking regularly.

So three weeks ago, I decided to come back to running. What prompted my decision was my Nike+ Sportband lying lifeless in my cabinet. I saw it one time and thought it as a subtle poking for me to return to the Battle of Marathon. That Nike+ Sportband also made me realize that my iPod Touch can actually record my runs more effectively. Besides the fact that the Nike+ App talks to me when I run, I decided to really run and have 21 straight days of it to make a habit, again, out of it.

Two weeks of running has made me feel lighter (or so i believe). Which brings me to the real point of this article after a very loooong premise, I decided to run a race after almost 8 months of a run-empty existence.

The Takbo Laban sa Krimen 2013 was the obvious choice as there were no other scheduled races that befall that weekend.


All in all, it was an easy run. I regained my 52minute PR for a 10K and had my Nike+ App have his official first 10K run. The best thing that happened though was that I have kept my pace all throughout that 10K distance from IT park to Capitol and back to IT Park without any hydration intake. Yes, I finished 10K without drinking water (thankfully there were no energy drinks served, or I would have stopped for a drink) for fear of experiencing pain in my tummy.

I still was afraid to be hit by the vehicles so I had to be more cautious of them when crossing streets. The thing with races here in Cebu is that NOT ALL vehicles respect the lanes assigned for runners. And less and less marshals are visible to promulgate such road assignments. It was what had happened with the accident I have mentioned above - a runner hit by a car and the car speeding off leaving the runner lumped on the gutter hitting his head on it. In most races I did in Manila, more marshalls are assigned in areas deemed to have more running vehicles thus really making the drivers aware of a runners lane. I hope Cebu race specialists do the same though I think they are doing their best in protecting the runners.

In summary, the run was a cool comeback for me. I did my 10K without feeling much pain on my legs and most importantly a happy fulfilled heart ready to run longer distances on the next races.
